THE UNSWEPT FLOOR
One of the less common themes of roman mosaic is the Asarôtos Oikos or Unswept Floor, a decorative theme found in Greek and Roman mosaics. The theme depicts scraps of food following a luxurious meal, scattered across the room’s floor. According to Pliny the Elder, this theme was originally created by the mosaicist Sosus of Pergamon, most probably in the 2nd century BC.
ART INSTALLATION
A sculpture topos, a memorial architecture, the Unswept floor pinpoints our relation to nature not as a divinity to worship but as a source of profit. A floor made of plastic trash carefully collected and assembled, invites us to examinate closely what we give back to nature and questions our purpose from past to present into the future. Mixed media, various dimensions. Photographs Yannis Drakoulidis.
